Ligori's Pizza & Pasta
4421 Harrison Boulevard, Ogden, UT 84403-3110
(801) 476-0476‎

The pizza connoisseur in me wants to appreciate all pizza places, but knowing that Ligori's has been in business for 19 years and then eating there, makes me ask the question-how are they still in business?

There appears to be regulars and the local police who keep the seats warm.

The crust is average and the food (pasta and sandwiches) is merely okay.

On April 15th, 2010 Ligori's on Harrison will be closing. They are likely moving next to Golden Jade off 4800 in the old juice bar location.

Let's hope the visibility and the new venue pushes them to improve on the pizza dough.

For now you can enjoy vinyl table cloths, a mix match of wooden sports carvings, eclectic Italian paintings, and scenic Italian light fixtures on the ceiling while listening to 80's music (oh Brian Adams!). I have to admit the service is good and the prices are reasonable. If only the food was worth coming back for.

A better choice may be to stay home in your pajamas with a $1 red box movie and order Domino's.

Perhaps a little harsh.....I have had the Hawaiian pizza and thought it was good.

This was not my first visit and it will surely not be my last. For those of you out there who have a hard time trying something new-go for the lunch buffet. A deal at $7.99 for lunch. You can try a variety of dishes and not feel bad if you don't finish your plate. Try a little of everything and find what you like. You may get to sample things that are not on the menu (like today's coconut cream soup). Lunch is a much better time to go because service in the evening can be slow.

A great place to run into people from the nearby University and a casual enough place you can wear your workout clothes and still fit in. You might even meet the owner-who regularly walks around to say hello to customers.

For today's lunch buffet I enjoyed the chicken saag- a chicken and spinach dish cooked with chopped onions and tomato gravy. It was a first for me, as I usually go straight for the chicken curry. Thank you to my lunch guest for promoting me to try saag (not Saab). I also tried the chicken korma-boneless cubes of chicken cooked in a mild cashew nut gravy with onion paste and fresh cream. A little sweet though a nice contrast to the saag.

If you have a sweet tooth-the buffet includes dessert.

With naan (bread), soup, salad, a variety of meat and meatless dishes, and dessert-$7.99 is a deal.

It was dinner time and we realized it was Mardi Gras! Kudos to Jennifer and John(Chef) for bringing cajun to people not willing to drive to SLC for good Utah eats all the time.

To starts things off we had fried cheese curds. What can make squeaky cheese even better? Fry it! The 3 dipping sauces for the curds included; creole sauce, cajun mustard, and a mayonnaise. They also have okra on the menu (seasonal).

Louis Armstrong bolts from speakers as we sit at the 50's style bar stools enjoying sweet tea.

Appreciate the chalk art menu instead of the standard paper.

A calm night likely because Soul & Bones doesn't serve alcohol.

For $9.00 I ordered half of the smoked chicken with two sides: baked beans and french fries. The sauce had a kick and I highly recommend using your hands for an experience. My first response was to use utensils-just dig in, it is BBQ!

I failed to mention that there are free refills on the sweet tea-$2.00. Thank you to Colpitts for sharing- to help me cut the heat(I am not from the south and still gaining my taste buds for heat-look out Indian food).

Colpitts had a huge plate of jambalaya. Did anyone else out there think jambalaya was similar to soup or gumbo? Again, I am not from the south. He seemed to enjoy the small and large shrimp, sausage, chicken meat and pile of rice.

If we only had room and not leaving with doggie boxes (instead of bags), I would have tried the key lime or peanut butter cream pie.

We will return and try the hush puppies (not just a shoe brand).

Don't be intimated by the location (next door to the Lighthouse). Be adventurous and you will be rewarded for giving Soul & Bones BBQ a try!

Vasuvio's Organic Gourmet Cafe

Salt Lake City - February 13, 2010:

Colpitts and I went to Vasuvio's Organic Gourmet Cafe. They are located at 155 Main Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84111. The phone number that is listed on the Cafe's website (http://www.vasuvioscafe.com) is 801-596-2052.

The atmosphere was plain, yet there was some cozy seating tucked between the window and with couches along the north wall (think simple-IKEA with a touch of green house plants). The music playing in the background featured artists such as Colbie Caillat, Tracy Chapman, and other female artists. Thank you Lilith Fair for returning for 2010! http://www.lilithfair.com/

I ordered the Turkey-Havarti panini with a garden salad. Every order has the option of tortilla chips and salsa or barbecue flavored potato chips. The portions are generous and for $9.50 my plate was full with a half sandwich, homemade Italian dressing and green salad, and chips with fresh salsa.

Prices and service was great. Looking forward to returning as the daily specials change. Colpitts a beloved meat and potatoes guy ventured and tried the veggie chili.

The location is great for the roamer in all of us. Close to Sam Weller's a wonderful bookstore to indulge for a few hours. Check out the map section. If you need more exercise, during the winter months, an outdoor ice rink is open for skating. And if you want to stay over, Hotel Monaco spoils guests with evening wine and chair massages. In the morning you can read the paper by fireside in the lobby while sipping Mighty Leaf tea or coffee. You may even encounter a pet guest as the Hotel is pet friendly.
